France's 2026 E-Invoicing Pilot: What Businesses Should Know

France's e-invoicing reform is moving from planning to reality. The French tax administration (DGFiP) and the Agency for State Financial Information Systems (AIFE) have officially released the charter governing the country's 2026 e-invoicing pilot program. Running from February through August 2026, the pilot is designed to help accredited platforms, businesses, and the French government prepare for the first phase of mandatory e-invoicing beginning on September 1, 2026.

At Storecove, we're pleased to announce that we will participate in the pilot and expect to make participation available to our clients beginning mid-June.

What is The French Pilot?

The pilot serves as a real-world preparation phase ahead of France's upcoming e-invoicing mandate.

Unlike a traditional testing environment, participating businesses will exchange real invoices, real transaction data, and real business documents through accredited platforms and the French Public Invoicing Portal (PPF).

This allows all participants to validate processes, identify challenges, and gain practical experience before mandatory compliance requirements take effect.

This is Not A Sandbox Environment

One of the most important aspects of the pilot is that it operates in production.

Participants will not send invoices or use simulated data.

Instead, businesses will exchange real business documents through the same infrastructure that will ultimately support France's e-invoicing framework.

Because the pilot uses live data and real exchanges, businesses gain valuable operational experience long before the September 2026 deadline.

Why Participate?

For many businesses, the pilot offers an opportunity to move beyond theoretical preparation and begin working with the future framework in practice.

Participating organizations can:

  • Become familiar with France's e-invoicing processes
  • Validate internal workflows
  • Gain hands-on experience with invoice exchange
  • Identify potential integration considerations early
  • Prepare teams ahead of mandatory adoption

Rather than waiting until compliance deadlines approach, businesses can begin building confidence in their processes while the pilot is underway.

A Framework Still Being Refined

It's important to recognize that this is a pilot for everyone involved, including the French administration.

The government continues to refine both the platform and technical specifications, meaning participants should expect updates, improvements, and occasional adjustments throughout the pilot period.

As with any large-scale government-led initiative, some issues may arise as the ecosystem continues to mature. The pilot exists in part to identify and resolve those challenges before mandatory implementation begins.

No Additional Client Agreements Required

Businesses considering participation may be pleased to know that joining the pilot does not require signing any additional agreements.

The pilot charter also notes that participation does not create additional contractual obligations between participating businesses and their accredited platform.

How Storecove Clients Will Participate

From a technical perspective, participation is established through the French Annuaire (directory service).

For Storecove clients, participation is evidenced by the creation of an Annuaire entry indicating that the company can be reached through Storecove as of a specified effective date. In most cases, this corresponds with the date the client begins using Storecove's French API capabilities.

Once registered, businesses can begin participating in invoice exchanges within the pilot framework.

Storecove's Pilot Availability

Storecove plans to make pilot participation available to clients beginning in mid-June. Our team is actively preparing for onboarding and supporting customers interested in gaining early experience with France's upcoming e-invoicing framework.

As implementation timelines approach, participating in the pilot offers organizations a unique opportunity to prepare for the future by using real-world processes and production infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

France's September 2026 deadline is rapidly approaching.

The pilot represents one of the final opportunities for businesses to gain practical experience before mandatory e-invoicing requirements begin. As France moves closer to its September 2026 implementation date, the pilot provides organizations with an opportunity to gain practical experience and prepare for the future of e-invoicing in a production environment.

If you're interested in participating in the French pilot through Storecove, reach out to our team to learn more about availability and onboarding timelines.
